Fireproof will be promoting its fire testing and polymer compounding facilities at the ‘Fire Resistance in Plastics 2006’ conference, to be held in Düsseldorf, Germany, on the 6th to 8th November. Fireproof can be found on Stand 8 in the foyer outside the main conference hall (‘Spiegelsaal’). The conference will provide an international forum for all companies involved in fire retardancy and flame retardant plastics to learn about the latest developments that will influence the industry. Fireproof provides laboratory services and is equipped with a comprehensive range of small-scale fire tests. Fireproof also offers a polymer processing, compounding and moulding laboratory, ideal for re-formulation purposes, along with comprehensive mechanical testing and analytical capabilities.
“We have chosen the ‘Fire Resistance in Plastics’ conference to promote our fire testing and polymer compounding facilities. This is an important time for the flame retardant industry as ever increasingly higher standards for fire resistance are being introduced in order to meet health and safety regulations,” comments Dr Paul Cusack, Research Manager at Fireproof. “The capabilities of the Fireproof laboratories allow us to tailor a service to meet customer’s individual needs, either for rapid response issues or as part of a longer term R& D programme.”
The techniques and tests offered by Fireproof can be divided into 3 sections: Fire Testing, Polymer Processing, and Chemical Analysis and Characterisation. Standard fire tests offered include: Cone Calorimetry, Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI), NBS Smoke Box and UL-94 vertical and horizontal tests. Techniques and tests offered under Polymer Processing include: twin-screw extruder, two-roll mill, high shear mixers, injection and compression moulding, along with appropriate tensile and impact test procedures. With respect to the techniques offered under Chemical Analysis and Characterisation, these include: ICP- AES spectrometry, AAS spectrometry, wet chemical analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy and UV-Visible spectroscopy.
